Meet Professor Mashudu Tshifularo. The man who made history by performing the world's first 3D printed middle ear transplant!
Tshifularo,a professor at the University of Pretoria (UP) made history back in 2019 when he performed this ground breaking surgery.
Originally from Venda in Limpopo he says he knew at the tender age of 13 that he wanted to be a doctor and not just any ordinary doctor, but that he wanted to break boundaries and reach for the unreachable!
When he is not being the Head of Department of otorhinolaryngology at the University and is considered the top Ear,Nose Throat(ENT) specialist in South Africa, one might find him at his local church in Pretoria where he is also a pastor.
With him in the leadership role the department has helped a lot of poor people regain their hearing through a special program called The Steve Biko Roberts Kerr Cochlear Implants Project.
As the first black ENT specialist in the country,Tshifularo has trained more black ENT specialists than anyone in South Africa.
According to online publication Good Things Guy,Tshifularo's motto in life is "innovate or perish" and his dedication to his work proves this.Adding onto that he said "Our future is in innovation towards excellent, internationally recognized solutions. Our aims are to improve safety and efficiency and to reduce costs in our communities as the field of ENT progresses".
