POLICE ARREST MOB JUSTICE SUSPECTS
South African Police Service (SAPS) representative Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said Khotso Mabokoane, 25, Tonki Hlomelang, 39, and Maropeng Malatjie, 41, were captured by the Potchefstroom police in the wake of the anarchy assault on Monday.
The police said a 33-year-elderly person was supposedly seized and seriously attacked by the suspects.
"As per data available to us, the 33-year-elderly person was home and resting at around 2:00 with his child when a gathering of individuals powerfully opened an entryway and went into the house," said Funani.
"The crowd that blamed the casualty for robbery for electric links purportedly took him with them. Claims further express that the casualty was taken to a specific house where he was attached to a tree and attacked with sjamboks and sticks."
After the attack, one of the suspects called the casualty's child to come and bring. The child took the person in question – who was seriously harmed – home and the police and paramedics were gathered. Lamentably, the casualty was announced dead at the scene.
The police captured Mabokoane, Hlomelang, and Malatjie at Letlhakaneng town, close to Brits, on Monday. The threesome showed up under the watchful eye of the Brits Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 19 October, on charges of abducting and murder,
The case was remanded until Monday, 25 October, when the denounced will return in court for a conventional bail application.
