Teenage killer leads cops on a wild goose chase looking for a body he knew wasn’t there

Alleged teenage killer leads cops on a wild goose chase looking for a body he knew wasn’t there

After allegedly killing the 15-year-old girl, the teenager led villagers to the bushes where he said the girl had been taken.

The teenager told the community and police he and the schoolgirl were confronted and attacked by an unknown man after they had been to the Lion Inn Resort at Tshivhilwi village, near Thohoyandou.

He also claimed that the unknown man threatened him with death before taking the young girl to nearby bushes at knifepoint. He said he had no option but to run away, leaving the girl with the unknown attacker.

The brutal murder of Tshinakaho Munyai next to a filling station at Vondwe village outside Thohoyandou on Saturday evening at around 9pm has left the village in a state of shock.

The girl’s bloodied body with several stab wounds was discovered by a passerby on Sunday afternoon.

On Tuesday police arrested the boy.

Munyai family spokesperson Khuthadzo Munyai said it is a very difficult time for the family.

“We can’t believe we will never see her again. This brutal death has shattered us all. She left home in high spirits and never came home,” she said.

Khuthadzo said what made it worse is that the killer was a local boy who also lied and led them to the bushes knowing fully that he had killed her in the most gruesome way.

“The boy is a liar. The worst part of [it is that] his family are our neighbours. How are the families going to look at each other after this incident?” Khuthadzo said.

“We also need to know what drove him to kill her.”

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the arrest.

“The suspect was charged with murder and will appear in court soon,” Mojapelo said.
