A glimpse of Mpho Moerane’s house got people talking. See what they were on about

As a way of honoring former Joburg Mayor, Mpho Moerane, a JMPD motorcade paraded outside his home on Thursday afternoon. The motorcade ushered current Mayor Mpho Phalatse and Gauteng Cogta MEC Lebogang Maile and some of the political leaders who visited the family today. Moerane sadly passed away on Wednesday evening after being unconscious following a car accident. A glimpse of Moerane's house was shown and that got many people talking.

The parade was indeed a great way of honoring a great man who has been hailed for being a selfless leader. But several people were drawn to the posh area where Moerane and his family lived. The Moerane's live in the posh suburbs of Bryanston in Johannesburg. Opulence is the word for the jaw-dropping mansions fit for royalty lined up in Moerane's street. "That's our leaders...when we complain about poor service they don't care as they are always staying in the high suburbs", a Twitter user remarked.

Some people were quick to say the fact that politicians live in houses secured behind high walls is the reason why they don't understand the plight of crime. This has brought the high life of politicians to the spotlight.

But Moerane was a different kind of a politician. According to Cogta MEC, Lebogang Maile, Moerane is leaving a great legacy. "He was a caring, very humble, committed servant of our people.” These are the poignant words of Gauteng cooperative governance and traditional affairs MEC Lebogang Maile – who paid homage to the late former Joburg mayor Mpho Moerane. Maile was among close family, friends and politicians who conveyed their condolences at his Bryanston home on Thursday. Mpho Moerane rose through the ranks, from the ANC's branches in Alexandra, to become City of Johannesburg Mayor, and he was well liked along the way.

According to the family spokesperson, Mike Maile, Moerane’s memorial service will be held in Alexandra north of Johannesburg on Friday, while his funeral service will take place at Kwabhekilanga Sports Grounds on Sunday. Moerane is survived by his wife, Fikile, and four children.
