According to Sowetan Live, "The department of correctional services expects to save R163m in the coming year as a result of prisoners producing their food."
"Correctional services minister Ronald Lamola told parliament on Thursday that due to government resources being constrained, in some prisons inmates were producing their vegetables and meat as a result of a departmental self-sufficiency strategic framework which also has a restorative-justice element."
It was supposed to be done from the beginning. I'm not impressed because these jailbirds lead a luxurious life, so until the government brings back the death penalty, I will be chilled. " They should also produce food for schools and hospitals. Lamola's stupid government must start by banning imports of all veggies that prisoners can produce, including the scrapping of the outrageous AGOA deal to import chicken.
Below are the views of the public on Facebook regarding the reports.
The government should reintroduce agriculture in primary schools as before. The subject has assisted many before in learning how to grow their vegetables at a young age.
"A satanic justice system that gives prisoners delicious food and free education for causing other people's pain and damage." "I don't take this seriously and see that people are worried about its leadership and are trying to keep us for 2024 votes," says a Facebook user.
"We can't celebrate this because that saved money will now be channelled to ANC comrades and bought at the conference by Ramaphosa. Lol, it should have been something that the government should have done years ago. They should plant or grow their vegetables and farm their livestock." says a Facebook user.
Yeah, good innovation by Minister Lamola. This guy can't eat and relax while we work so hard for our next plate. We get taxed so hard to feed them. The families of those in prison must be responsible for their day-to-day needs. Prisoners have the privilege of getting everything at the taxpayer's expense. They inflict severe pain on innocent, law-abiding citizens.
