Mzwandile Masina handed over a new home to Gogo Eunice Mtshengu of Ekurhuleni as part of a new housing development in Palmridge.
While her family cheered as they opened doors of their new house, Gogo Mtshengu couldn't help, but shed tears of joy as she toured inside here new home in Palmridge extension 7.
While the good gesture was applauded by many, some critics said Masina is now handing out houses to senior citizens because he wants votes as local government elections are only a few days away.
"As much as this is a nice gesture, but I know that he did this because of the upcoming local government elections, in politics timing is everything. I wish this could be normalized and not only be done on election season to attract new voters," some argued.
"How much did it cost to build that house? show us receipts please, we want to see something."
Tensions also arose as some are complaining that for 27 years they have been voting for ANC, but they have not received the houses they applied for a long time ago.
What Mzwandile Masina did is however not a new phenomenon as other political parties have been doing it as well. Recently the Economic Freedom Fighters handed over houses to three senior citizens in Polokwane.
The red beret leader, Julius Malema also promised that if EFF wins Municipalities in the upcoming local government elections, they are going to build spacious houses with flushing toilets inside and not the older version of RDP houses that ANC has been building for citizens over the years that are tiny and lacks proper sanitation.
A lot of South Africans are in need of proper houses as evidenced by informal settlements that continue to sprout everywhere.
