Police officers arrested for corruption
Two police officials accused of requesting cash for employment at Durban Metro Police were arrested by the Hawks team from the Durban-based Serious Corruption Investigation, on Thursday. Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said it is reported that the 2 were luring people to pay them money in order to get jobs at Durban Metro Police. One of the suspects is working for Durban Metro Police and the other one is employed by the South African Police Service situated at the King Shaka International Airport. An amount of up to R350 000 was deposited by different victims to a certain personal account belonging to one of the suspects. The two police officials are aged 36 and 39 years old, the pair was charged for corruption and appeared before the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, it was a tragic start to the weekend for the family of a 10-year-old girl who drowned at a complex swimming pool in uMhlanga, on Friday evening. Netcare 911 responded to the scene at the uMhlanga business district and spokesperson, Shawn Herbst, said: Reports from the scene show that a 10-year-old girl was found dead in the complex swimming pool.
When medics got on scene, the child had already been pulled out the pool. The patient was assessed by a Netcare 911 emergency care practitioner and she showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased on the scene.” Circumstances leading up to the incident are not clear and will be investigated by authorities.
If you have any information that could assist police with their investigations, please do not hesitate to inform them. This is very sad and the parents are obviously curious to know how their daughter died, no mother wants to bury her own child.
