South African Police Service police personel have always been doubted 4by the public for the way in which they use their power. Many believe that the reason why they overuse that power is because the government will never punish them. When a civilian becomes is an instigator of domestic violence, they are arrested and given all sorts of charges. However, when it is a cop that is doing such ill behavior, they are dismissed and stripped of their badge. Many people have made it clear that dismissal alone is not enough.
In the six months between April and September 2021, the SAPS identified 147 of its own officers as accused domestic violence perpetrators, with 75 of them losing their service firearms as a result.
The 147 suspected culprits were also discovered to be scattered throughout 95 police stations across the country. The Western Cape has more than half of them (76, or 51.7%), with the Free State and Gauteng each having 26.
