Six men were shot dead in Amaoti on Friday afternoon, prompting police in Kwazulu-Natal to launch a manhunt.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker, a vehicle with three occupants allegedly arrived at a tuck shop around 14:30 and its occupants opened fire.
"Behind the tuckshop, a group of men sat. Six men between the ages of 17 and 26 were killed in the attack "Naicker stated.
Six counts of murder are being investigated by police in Inanda. There have been no arrests.
"At this point, information gathered at the scene indicates that the deceased were seated behind the tuck shop, consuming drugs, and that the attack may have been drug-related," Naicker said.
They could have been owing drug dealers money or they had stolen the drugs.
The police are appealing to anyone with information about the deceased's identity to contact police at Inanda or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
