WATCH: eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda unveils R39m water project for Highway area

Durban – eThekwini city hall leader Mxolisi Kaunda this week reported the endeavor of a R39 million uMkhizwane Water Treatment Works (WTW) Expansion Project that will address the continuous water difficulties in the Outer West region. 

Kaunda said because of expanding water interest in regions provided by the uMkhizwana Water Treatment Works, the limit of the office should have been expanded from 1.5 megalitres (ML) a day to 4ML/day. 

"Right now the water provided is adequate to cover A1 to A6 repositories. This implies that A7 to A18 repositories are not getting funneled water. The updating of the treatment plant to 4ML/day will guarantee all current repositories get water supply. This will likewise wipe out water difficulties in regions, for example, Upper Maphephetheni, Mqeku, Mgezanyoni and Mlahlanja which are right now provided through water big haulers," said Kaunda. 

He said the extension project was booked to start in the main seven day stretch of October and would cost R39 million. He added that 30% of the agreement worth would be apportioned to nearby providers and 15 open positions would be made.
