"I had to sell my baby because I couldn't afford to pay my rent." Lady admits: Miss Mercy Okon, a 23-year-old mother of three, has admitted to selling her three-month-old baby for 150,000 naira.

The mother explained that she had to sell the kid because she needed the money to pay her rent and other expenses. She informed Vanguard that she did what she did in an attempt to lift herself out of poverty and desperation.

Her child's father abandoned her when she was six months pregnant, and she has two other children whom she has left with her mother because she has just given birth and is unable to continue her food company.

"I've never done anything like this before; my baby, which I sold for 150,000 naira, was to be able to generate money for housing rents and other expenditures," she explained.

I had no choice because things were really hard for me, so I had to give the baby away when the father of the baby left us when I was six months pregnant; I had no choice because things were really hard for me, so I had to give the baby away; however, the person who linked me up initially told me that his brother wanted to marry me.

"I was given 150,000 from them, which I accepted before turning over my three-month-old kid to them, and in the process, police got involved and I was arrested," she explained.

Vanguard learned that additional members of the organization were being targeted for arrest.
