Two youngsters drown as their handcrafted 'boat' capsizes in Seshego dam.

On a Limpopo dam, two boys, ages nine and twelve, drowned over the weekend while swimming with their pals and using white foam props as flotation devices. Kotsema Ramaru and his elder companion Kubu Mashilo, both from Seshego Zone 5, drowned about 10 a.m. on Saturday, according to Lt. Col. Malesela Ledwaba.

"According to the information we have, the lads were swimming over the dam with white foam props acting as flotation devices, which is supposed to be a common occurrence in the region. The terrible incident took place when their "boat" collapsed in the middle of the dam, resulting in the drowning of both boys.

One of the boys' bodies was successfully recovered by police divers on Saturday, and the hunt for the other was scheduled to begin on Sunday. As multiple drowning occurrences have been recorded nearby in the past, Ledwaba advised parents to make sure their kids don't participate in swimming sports unaccompanied and to be cautious of this dam.
