South Africa is experiencing another form of severe crime at its peak. This is not good at all, since people of all ages and genders are susceptible to kidnapping in this country. The kidnappers most of the time demand ransom, in order to release the victims. This is an alarm to rich families that are known publicly, to do things right, and always make sure that they are protected all the time. Kidnapping is going nowhere in South Africa at this moment, since it is the most practiced crime currently.
Bheki Cele, the police minister, said the second-quarter crime numbers are "very concerning." This is reasonable in light of the increase in kidnappings. Over the last two years, South Africa has experienced a dramatic spike in kidnappings. And, although the Moti brothers were returned safely, the majority of abduction victims are not that fortunate.
Cele spoke on kidnappings in South Africa.
Cele said that 2,000 kidnappings occurred in South Africa during the second quarter of 2021 - from July to September. He said that authorities analyzed 620 instances. In that sample, 52 kidnappings were motivated by ransom, whereas seven were motivated by human trafficking. 507 kidnappings were recorded in July, followed by 694 in August and 799 in September.
This is a 455-percent increase over the same time in 2020, when 414 instances were recorded in July, 519 in August, and 622 in September — a total of 1,555. According to the statistics, the majority of kidnappings occurred in Gauteng – 796 between July and September 2021, up from 471 in the same period in 2020.
During the second quarter of 2021: 796 persons in Gauteng, 407 in KwaZulu-Natal, 219 in the Western Cape, 171 in Mpumalanga, 130 in the Eastern Cape, 128 in the North West, 74 in the Free State, 64 in Limpopo, and 11 in the Northern Cape were abducted.
It is heartbreaking, as the family members of this lady who was kidnapped, shared a devastating picture being tied with ropes and a cloth inside her mouth not to say anything. This is traumatizing, and the hunt for this lady still continue.
