Illegal miners, also known as "Zama Zamas," have recently been in the news in South Africa after a group of them raped several young women in Krugersdorp. This afternoon, Wednesday, August 10, it was reported that a group of angry residents in Borwa on the West Rand took matters into their own hands by trying to chase out some alleged Zama Zamas in the area because they don't trust the police.
Reports say that the group of residents got together to chase away the alleged Zama Zamas. They also blocked roads and burned tires as a way to protest the lack of action by law enforcement against the alleged Zama Zamas.
Reports say that when the police got there, they started shooting rubber bullets at the group of angry residents to try to get them to leave.
