“PHOTOS" Anti-Economical Crime Task Team arrests suspect with bogus honey

Economic crime, usually referred to as financial crime, is the criminal behavior that one person or a group of people engages in in order to gain a competitive financial or professional edge. Economic gain serves as the primary motivation for these acts.

Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team followed up on information that led them to a house in Springfield Road, Schaapkraal, Philippi on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 8:00 a.m., when a search was carried out. When the team members seized a sizable amount of syrup in canisters labeled as honey, a 33-year-old suspect was detained. Along with gas canisters and gas burners, the members also seized pots and labels. On allegations stemming from the Act on Manufacturing, the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court.

In an unconnected incident, Nyanga police officers detained an adult male on Wednesday night at around 23:30 when they discovered him in possession of a gun, ammunition, and drugs.

The members searched the man while they were engaged in neighborhood crime prevention activities and discovered a weapon and ten mandrax tablets on him. The man was unable to present a legitimate firearms license.

The suspect will show up in Athlone Magistrates court after being charged.
