While strolling down the street in Bolton, a 15-year-old girl gets stabbed in the stomach

At 11.50 p.m. on Friday, police were called to reports of a 'incredibly frightening' incident in Chorley New Road, Horwich.

Before being stabbed in the stomach, the young victim was approached by two males in their late teens.

Detectives believe the girl was not the intended victim. She was taken to the hospital with "minor injuries" and was later released. There have been no arrests.

The attack has prompted police to issue a public plea for information.

"Understandably, this was a really frightening encounter for the young girl, and thankfully she only incurred minor injuries, but the outcome could have been far worse," said Detective Inspector Andy Wright of GMP's Bolton division.

"We've pursued all available avenues of inquiry to learn the complete story, and we're currently treating this as a one-off occurrence, although we don't believe the victim was the intended target."

"Detectives are still working to identify and apprehend the guys responsible, but I would ask anyone who may have been in the area to come forward."
