Another newly born baby is found inside a pit toilet in KZN

Children are often considered as a gift from God. But some parents tend to have children when they ate not expecting them and it always ends in tears.

A baby is lucky to be alive thanks to a persistent policewoman who never gave up on the rescue mission. This after the baby's mother had dumped her inside a pit toilet.

Following reports from the community, rescuers rushed to the Phatane area at Kwambonambi and sprang into action.

After members of Rural Metro Fire Department demolished a concrete section of the toilet to allow access space, Captain Maryke Hefer of the Saps Empangeni Emergency Search & Rescue Divers Unit was lowered head first into the pit.

With colleagues holding onto her legs, and wearing scuba breathing apparatus, she managed to safely extract the girl child, who was handed to an EMS ambulance crew on scene.

While police will investigate the circumstances that led to the baby being discarded, the little miracle infant is reportedly doing well.

Apart from having to hose themselves down to rid their bodies of excrement, the rescuers also suffered no after effects from the health hazard the pit posed.
