During the week, the SABC shared an important update for some members of the community. The South African Department of Home Affairs is reported by the SABC news as having made an important announcement regarding some IDs.
Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi is reported to have made it known that there are more than 400 000 IDs that are yet to be collected by its owners countrywide. The community members are encouraged by the department to approach the offices for the collection of the IDs that are ready.
The department of Home Affairs is currently issuing temporary IDs to the members of the public as a result of the level of lockdown. The change in the level of lockdown will also see the department changing the services that are provided. There are various reasons why some members of the public may not have collected their IDs from the department of Home Affairs.
Death is another factor that should never be left out. Several people have lost their lives, hence the inability to collect the IDs. It is also possible that some community members may not be having cell phone devices from which the SMS notifications could have been sent. However, those who are still alive, need to reach out to the offices of the department to collect their documents.
The Department of Home Affairs needs to come up with another mechanism of notifying residents whenever the IDs are ready for collection. It may include allowing the members of the public to register two or more numbers from which the notifications can be sent.It is very possible that some members of the community may not have got the notifications from the department as they did not have cellphone devices for specific reasons.
