Having friends may be difficult, perplexing, and even, on occasion, downright frustrating. There are times when we ask ourselves, "Why bother?" But friendship is essential to your well-being, and it helps to enrich our lives with meaningful dialogue, support from the heart, and enjoyable experiences. Who is there to help us when we are down on our luck? Who is there to support us? A good friend.
What are the components of a healthy friendship? The "recipe" is really fairly easy to follow.
1. Always be truthful when speaking with your close friends. Sometimes, we have a tendency to believe that we should only tell children realities that have been sugarcoated. We forget that, at times, everyone of us requires to be confronted with the truth and instead become people-pleasers. Of course, we should be nice at all times, but we should strive to be more genuine with the people we call our friends.
2. If one of your closest friends asks you about your opinion on their new girlfriend or boyfriend and you find that person's bad habits are intolerable, then you should be truthful with them. Communicate your thoughts to the other person in a manner that is respectful, such as saying, "You know what, I find certain of his or her practices not very nice or healthy." Simply provide them with some typical feedback, along with your sincere view. Never lie to someone about anything, especially if you want to keep your friendship with that person in the long run.
3. Collaborate with them to generate ideas and solve problems. It is a really good idea to participate in this activity with them if you are very close to each other. Because of their participation in this endeavor alongside me, my closest friends have been an incredible source of support for me throughout my life. Because we are not discussing the weather, our to-do lists, or other mundane topics, these conversations help to deepen the connections that we have with one another. We are having a conversation about the things that are significant to us.
4. Make an effort to put yourself in the position of one of your friends and try to understand how they feel. Nobody has an easy life; instead of criticizing others for who or what they are, embrace them for who and what they are. If you no longer desire to spend time with that person, you should find someone else to replace them. But you shouldn't make them feel horrible about who they really are by pointing out their flaws. Everyone travels their own unique way and must absorb their own unique teachings. Accept them into your life, and take pleasure in their companionship. It should not be your purpose in life to try to alter them.
5. If you have a problem with them, you should start a conversation about it. Take the initiative to start a conversation about the issue, during which you should also propose a solution or, at the very least, open the door to discussing possible solutions. If you want something to be different, you need to talk about it. If you want to establish a boundary, you should go ahead and accomplish it. Don't be hesitant to put yourself first or the relationship first; both are equally important. Your life and the quality of your friendships will both benefit greatly from this. Just give it a shot.
