In Matt. 12: 8-12, the LORD responded to a similar accusation by saying that He was and still is LORD of the Sabbath, and that the Sabbath should be used for good deeds. Unfortunately, religious fanaticism and jingoism wouldn't let the Pharisees to perceive the real essence of the Sabbath in juxtaposition with the ministry of our LORD. The knowledge of Jesus is a must and critical to our religious inclinations if we must derive maximum benefits from them., Our LORD said He and the Father were working everyday including Sabbath. Their office is continually open and their work is to attend to matters, battles, problems and challenges of God's people all over the world and to ensure God's will is done in all nations, institutions and organizations. What a virtue to imbibel Hard work is a virtue in deed and the Bible emphatically endorses it in both OT and NT, (Prov. 6:4-11; Eccl. 9:10; 1 Thess. 4:11-12, 2 Thes. 3:6-12).
While laziness will lead to failure, frustration, poverty and mediocrity, hard work and diligence will bring about success, prosperity, excellence and fulfillment in life. The Bible admonishes us to learn from the ants in terms of hard work and judicious use of time and seasons and not to be sleeping beyond normal. Paul exhorted the Thessalonian Christians to mind their business, avoid being busybodies and work hard to earn income and sustain themselves and families. Fellowship and recreational activities should not remove hard work if we must make necessary impact as Christians. No child of God should replicate "Unoka" of Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart, who was very lazy.
Rise up and make use of the unquantifiable resources in you and your environment through hard work and God will bless the work of your hands with success. Hard work is a virtue, laziness is a vice. That God shall baptize you with the spirit of hard work in Jesus' name.
CONTROLLING THOUGHT: Hard work is a virtue.
PRAYER: I receive the grace to be hardworking. Amen.
