Don't Be Lazy Over What You Are Expected To Do; Arise And Build

“Action is ideal when it procures the most enjoyment for the largest number,” a Scottish philosopher Francis Hutscheson said of leadership's capacity to discern people's moods and take appropriate action.

“And next unto him repaired Shallum the son of Halohesh, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem, he and his daughters. And after him repaired the priests, the men of the plain”. (Nehemiah 3:12,22).

Nehemiah, whose name means "The Lord comforts," was the Persian king Artaxerxes' personal cupbearer. The king gave him permission to travel to Judah in order to restore his people's circumstances. This did not come on a golden platter, but only after he was told that "the residue of the captivity there in the province is in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem is also torn down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire" (Nehemiah 1:3). This inspired him to fast and pray to seek God's face. The people were mobilized by Nehemiah, and the repair of Jerusalem's walls became a national emergency. Everyone took part.

Many places of worship today resemble chicken coops rather than God's homes, with some even lacking walls and gates. Leaders with vision and concern for the construction of proper houses of worship for the Lord are in high demand. These should be leaders who, like Nehemiah, will mobilize the entire community to achieve great goals. As we all bear testimony to God's enormous provision for the redemption of lost mankind, all hands must be on deck.

God, in His mercy, provided the best for us by sending His Son to die on the cross. Those who have been redeemed by the blood to serve the living God should provide the best service.
