"And do not forget to thank him" Philippians 4: 6
In my daily prayers, the words of the song Count your blessings, Describe them one by one. I haven't sung this song in a long time - the lyrics are amazing:
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by the burden of care
Does the cross seem too heavy to bear?
Count your many blessings, they will surely fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
This is a good reminder to take time to think about what God is doing for us. We are always looking at terrible things - evil, hurricanes, floods, and destruction and famine.
But take time every day to write words or write down everything you are grateful for. You may want to use this list. Doing so will refresh your soul.
Start with gratitude
Psalm 100: 4 tells us,
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
• Thank him for his patience and forgiveness.
• Thank Him for the privilege of coming into His presence.
• Thank Him for what He has done and for your life over the past year.
List the things he did
Take time to list the things God has done for you. Be specific. Think about all the areas of your life.
Stand before the Lord. (Psalm 46:10)
Think about who God is. (Psalm 103)
Praise Him for His attributes. (Psalm 145)
Enjoy your relationship with him and he will be happy with you. (Proverbs 15: 8)
Read the scriptures and pray back to God. (Psalms 146-150)
Sing to the Lord.
Lord thank you for the beauty of the seasons. Thank you for your health and strength. Thank you for the people who love me and the people who love me. I love you God and thank you for loving me first. Amen.
