A role model is someone who inspires others to follow in his or her footsteps. While there are divine role models, there are also sinful ones who push their followers to make decisions that lead to hell. We're talking about godly role models today, and the Lord is asking you, "Are you a godly role model?" Apostle Paul was so confident in himself and his place in Christ that he challenged everyone in his sphere of influence to copy him as he imitated the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).
We can learn some things about Apostle Paul from today's Bible text that parallel the teachings and life of our Lord Jesus Christ. The first of these is a godly way of life. Paul stated that the reward of God's high calling in Christ was all he desired in life. Second, he wanted to understand more about Christ, especially the power of His resurrection, what it meant to share in His sufferings, and how to be like Him in death, in order to learn how to please God. Third, he was unyielding in his efforts to keep himself clean as well as to reap the crop of lost souls. Fourth, he forsook all his worldly accomplishments and followed after Christ because of the greatness of knowing the Lord Jesus Christ. This attitude reflects that of his Master, who gave up His heavenly splendor to take on the form of a servant on earth. He was so humble that He even gave His life for the sake of all mankind (Philippians 2:5-8).
In these end-times, the Body of Christ should be challenged by this lesson. I've seen that some pastors aren't as concerned with where their congregation's members will finish the Christian race. This is reflected in the type of sermons they deliver: messages that focus solely on human emotions. Apostle Paul has something to say about such pastors:
“Brethren, be one in spirit with me, and note those who walk as you have us as an example. (For many walk, of whom I have frequently told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of Christ's cross: Whose end is ruin, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their disgrace, who are preoccupied with earthly things. (Philippians 3:17-19)
What a Christian faith role model we have in Apostle Paul! Having a godly-driven personality as a role model in your life will be wise.
