Opinion: What exactly are the last days and are we really experiencing them?

When one talks about the last days, they are referring to the future - the climax of God’s final salvation and the wrath that everyone will witness, this is according to 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-11.

According to Matthew 24:36, as much as people know that this day will come, they do not know the exact day or hour of the last day itself.

The last days is period we are living in now which the period between Christ’s death, resurrection, ascension and his second return. According to Jude 1:18 and 1 Peter 1:20, this is also called the last time/s.

In the Old Testament, God promised a messiah who would control his kingdom, this was the age of promise. With the coming of Jesus Christ or the Messiah was the beginning of the age of fulfilment. God’s promises are being fulfilled in these last days even though they are not fulfilled until the very last day.

To understand the difference between the last day and the last days/last hour you can refer to:

1 John 2:18 which says “Children it is the last hour, and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, so now many Antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.”

Jude 1:18 “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.”

2 Timothy 3:1 “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty”
