Prayer: Almighty God, Please Help Me To Always Fight Temptations In My Life Beginning From Now

"Blessed is the man who endureth temptation, for he shall get the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love him when he is tried." 1 John 1:12

Proverbs 1:11-15 "If they say, "Come with us, let us wait for blood, let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause," I'll say, "Come with us, let us wait for blood, let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause."

12 Let us devour them alive, as if they were in the grave, and entire, as if they were those who go down into the pit.

13 We'll find every valuable item, and we'll fill our homes with loot:

14 Place thy bet among us, and we'll all have one purse:

15 My son, do not walk with them; keep your feet off their path:

It's an irony of spiritual life that the devil is the prosecutor. "And the big dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels with him," the Bible says in Revelation 12:9-10. And I heard a loud voice declare in heaven, "Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been brought down."

Despite what the Bible says, there are benefits to resisting temptation. "And to him who overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, I will grant dominion over the nations," Revelation 2:26.

To be able to fight temptations, one must have a sincere love for God. Because of his love for God, Joseph in Egypt was able to resist the temptation of sleeping with his master's wife (Genesis 39:9).

The reading for today gives us some insight into how to fight temptations: we are to shun sinners' company and reject their ways. As long as we are alive, there will be temptations. Temptation is not a sin in and of itself, but succumbing to it is. Sins do not become sins unless you entertain and act on the sinful thoughts that the devil throws at you. We overcomers are defined by our resistance. "Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, struggling against sin," says Hebrews 12:4.

We must also refrain from doing anything that may lead to temptation. Why would you, for example, carry in your lap a member of the opposite sex who is not your spouse? Keep in mind that you are still made of flesh and blood. Let us take a lesson from Joseph, who fled Potiphar's wife's seduction in order to avoid committing a sin against God (Genesis 39:7-12).

God has promised to always provide a way out of every temptation for us (1 Corinthians 10:13). The enemy was unable to ruin the glory ahead of Joseph because he used the escape path that God supplied.

"......lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil..."

Prayer point: Father, "......lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil..." (Matthew 6:13)
