Prayer: Lord, Uproot Every Seed Of Sin Satan Has Planted In Me And Grant Me Victory Over The Flesh

"However, I keep my body under control and bring it into submission, lest, by any means, I myself be thrown away after I have preached to others." 1 Corinthians 9:27

The flesh, which reflects the sinful character of the fallen man, is one of the three expressways to sin. "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: Of which I have already told you, as I have also told you in the past." Galatians 5:19-21

As Apostle Paul advised, we must be careful not to give in to our fleshly desires. He advocates walking in the Spirit in Galatians 5:16-17. "Then I tell you, walk in the Spirit, and your fleshly desires will be satisfied." Because the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit lusts against the body, these are at odds, preventing you from doing what you desire. Knowing that sin is the flesh's natural propensity. "O wretched man that I am! who shall save me from the body of this death?" he cries in Romans 7:24.

As he declared in 1 Corinthians 9:27, he found a solution to this problem to the glory of God. "However, I keep my body under control and bring it into submission, lest, by any means, I myself be thrown away after I have preached to others."

By accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour and promising to spend our lives according to His will, we, like Apostle Paul, may overcome the disastrous consequences of the flesh. In this regard, our annual New Year's resolution to live a holy life will be worthless. Only the Holy Spirit's power can aid a man in conquering his physical body. This is why, in Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest."

"I have fought a good battle, I have finished my course, I have maintained the faith," we will be able to say, as Apostle Paul did in 2 Timothy 4:7. In Jesus' Mighty Name, may the Lord grant us victory over the body.
