Churches May Reopen : Alert level 3

President Cyril Ramaphosa said even though the Country will be moving to alert level 3 from the 1st of June 2020 Social Gatherings are still prohibited. He however, said discussions with interfaith religious community on their partial opening of spiritual worship continues.

“We have had fruitful discussions with leaders of the interfaith religious community on their proposals for the partial opening of spiritual worship and counselling services subject to certain norms and standards.We have all agreed to have further discussions on this issue and are confident we will find a workable solution, ” Ramaphosa said.

Ramaphosa said the government wishes the Muslim compatriots well for Eid

According to Wikipedia Eid al-Fitr, also called the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. This religious Eid is the only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast.

Eid al-Fitr, is one of the most festive holidays in Islam, A three-day holiday Muslims celebrate to mark the end of the fast, Eid al-Fitr, or "festival of breaking the fast" in Arabic, will fall over Memorial Day weekend this year, spanning from May 24 to 26.

“They have all gone through a period of sacrifice, which should ordinarily be followed by a celebration. We wish to thank them for making the necessary adjustments to this celebration as we continue to fight this pandemic together,” Ramaphosa said .

Restaurants, bars and taverns, except for delivery or collection of food remains prohibited. The sale of tobacco also remains prohibited for health purposes alcohol will be allowed for home consumption.
