The Holy Spirit and The Will of God

Matthew 6.10 says ‘your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven’

Other bible translations have it as ‘as it is already done in heaven’ The fact that God has already prepared it for you also means He is not going to alter that which He already has prepared. What he has prepared is His best. What happens though is that much of what God has purposed for us is stalled in heaven because of our lack of praying or our wrong way of praying. Many things have piled up in heaven simply because man will not pray according to Gods’ Will. The duty of the Holy Spirit is to therefore lead believers into the true Will of God.

Now let me briefly explain that word ‘Will’ which is found in Matthew 6.10.

Will’ – In the original Greek has two meaning:

1 – ‘Boulema’- This is the eternal will of God. In other words it will be done whether you like it or not, for example - the return of Christ and the gathering of the elect, Matthew 24.30-31 or the judgement of each person according to what he has done here on earth. Revelation 20.13

2 – ‘Thelema’ –However is a word used in Greek to describe God’s desire for us and is dependant on us - the response of the believer. This means that when the believer responds to God and His desires, it will then be done. If you want to know what God’s will is, then you must pray. Prayer makes known God’s heart but also prayer makes known to Him your heart through His indwelling Holy Spirit. The response to that is made very clear in Jeremiah 29.12-13 ‘Then you will call upon me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.’
