"Let us then leave the fundamentals of Christ's preaching and pursue perfection, not laying afresh the basis of repentance from dead works and faith in God," Hebrews 6:1
Many Christians believe that being perfect is unattainable due to the limits of our flesh, but Jesus emphasized that we should strive to be perfect, just as our heavenly Father strives to be perfect (Matthew 5:48). Because Jesus said this, it implies that perfection is possible. The only way to achieve the level of perfection that God demands of us is to follow the model that He has established, which is the Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus was on the world, He led a faultless life. This is evidenced by Hebrews 4:15, which says:
“For we do not have a high priest who is unaffected by our infirmities, but who was tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.”
It is possible for us to live a life of total purity and cleanliness that is pleasing to God, just as Jesus was able to live a spotless life while on earth. Our Lord taught us how to live a pure life by saying in Luke 9:23, "If any one will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
To put it another way, if you want to follow His lead, you must first reject yourself. Denying oneself entails letting go of one's natural state. To live a holy life, you may need to alter your friends, some of your favorite places, your favorite websites, and some of your old routines. You'll also have to deprive your body of some of the pleasures it was used to. You must not give in to the flesh's desire for alcohol, strong drugs, illicit sex, stealing, lying, and other vices.
Your old guy must die first in order for you to live as the new creature you are. When you slap a dead man, he does not rise to defend himself since he is no longer alive. Similarly, you must deprive yourself to the point when your previous cravings are fully extinguished.
Second, you must bear your cross on a daily basis. Many Christians make the error of attempting to live a holy life without taking it day by day. You don't have terrible breath because you brush your teeth every day. Because you bathe every day, your body stays clean. Carrying your cross on a regular basis is another approach to keep your spirit clean.
Every morning, turn to God and ask Him to help you live a holy life for the rest of the day; then tell yourself, “Throughout today, I must not commit any sin.” After some time, you will realize that you have been effectively leading a holy life if you make this a habit.
