Female Pastors/Preachers in Church: Why is it wrong or not biblical?

Female Pastors/Preachers in Church: Why is it wrong or not biblical?

Sometimes ago, a popular American pastor, John MacArthur said "there is no case that can be made biblically for a woman preacher." MacArthur validate his position with Apostle Paul's teaching which prescribes that a woman does not have authority to teach men. Tim. 2:11-15, 1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9 Also, 1 Cor. 11:3-16 prohibit women from occupying the office of a pastor or preacher.

Are Apostle Paul and MacArthur's correct? Is it wrong of unbiblical for women to be pastors and preachers and also lead congregation of men and women? If this is wrong, what about men and women pastors and prophetesses today who are great preachers and teachers of God's word as well as miracle workers? Some of these women are even better off than some of their omale counterparts in ministry.

Recently in Kenya, a female Reverend Rose Okeno became the first woman to be a full Anglican bishop in Kenya, where the consecration of women as bishops is still controversial. Rev. Okeno was enthroned as bishop of the Butere Diocese in western Kenya on Sept. 12, 2021.

Even that, there are a lot of resistances from many quarters as many believe that the Kenyan Anglican province defied moratorium to ordain woman bishop. Meanwhile, a 2018 moratorium of the Global Anglican Future Conference resolved to halt the consecration of women into the episcopate until a consensus is reached.

Further to this, Pastor MacArthur insists that women pastors and preachers are the most obvious evidence of churches rebelling against the bible. Indeed, there are no examples of women elders and pastors serving over men in the New Testament. But this does not discount powerful women like Prophetess Deborah in the old testament who led army generals to war.

This doctrine or opinion is a major point of division among many Christians. Jennifer Lynn is a female pastor who disagrees with the doctrine. “Women can preach the gospel to the lost and open the eyes of the blind just like Paul did because we are all one body,” Lynn said.

Yet, Paul has said in one of his teachings that we are all one in Christ and there is no differentiation alongside gender, tribe and others differences. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus,” Galatians 3. verses 26-28.

Therefore, in the light of the above scriptures one can make sense of Paul’s injunction that women should not preach in a church assembly. It can then be concluded that this instruction is not really a gag on women being pastors or preachers. In any case, Paul never mentioned women pastors or prophets. for, according to Paul, there is neither male nor female in CHrist.
