How to Know God Personally – Four Spiritual Principles

Rule 1:

God loves you and gives you a good plan for your life.

God's love

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God's plan

[Christ says] "I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly" [to be complete and meaningful].

Rule 2:

We all sin and our sin separates us from God.

We are defeated

“The wages sin pays is death” [spiritual separation from God].

This picture shows that God is holy and that humans are sinners. A huge gap separates us. The arrows indicate that we are constantly trying to reach God and more lives through our efforts,

The third law explains the only way to close this gap.

Rule 3:

Jesus Christ is God's only provision for sin. Through Him, we can know and feel God's love and plan for our lives.

He died in our place

“God recommends his love to us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

He rose from the dead

“Christ died for our sins and was buried, and was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred.

He is the only way to God

"Jesus said to him," I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

This picture shows that God closed the gap that separates us from Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place to pay the penalty for our sins.

Rule 4:

We must personally accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord; then we can know and feel God's love and plan for our lives.

We must accept Christ

But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

We accept Christ by faith

“By grace, you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, that no one would boast.

We accept Christ at your invitation

Christ speaking “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him.

Accepting Christ involves turning to God in repentance and trusting Christ to come into our lives to forgive our sins and make us what He wants us to be.

These two circles represent two types of life:

Which circle best describes your life?

Which circle do you wish we represented in your life?
