Opinion: Say this prayer to acknowledge the Holy Spirit and be led by it

John 14:3 says “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Some people don’t know what Jesus was talking about in the opening scripture. Some people have thought that he is talking about the second coming or the rapture, but this is not what he is referring to in that scripture. In order to understand what Jesus was saying, you will have to put it in context and interpret his message with your spirit, and not with what you see. When you read further to verse 16 it says “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.”

In Greek the term “another Comforter” is “Allison parakleton” which means “another of same kind”. So, the Holy Spirit was introduced by Jesus at that moment. Jesus then said “...ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:17). You may ask how the Holy Spirit stayed with them at that time, and whether it was not supposed to come on the day of Pentecost. This therefore shows that he was not only referring to the Holy Spirit but to himself. In verse 18, he said “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” You may then ask how he will then come to them.

When you read verse 20, he said “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” He was referring to the day when the Holy Ghost comes. Therefore, when he said “I will come to you,” he meant “I’ll come to you in the Holy Spirit!” And on the Day of Pentecost, he fulfilled his promise: “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4). Even today he lives in you.

Prayer:

Dear Holy Spirit, thank you for your presence within me which has made me victorious over every circumstance. Thank you for stirring up the courage within me to do God’s will and for helping me to keep my faith. I will succeed in life because you always guide and lead me. Amen.
