PRAYER: Lord, Please Help Me Return All Glory To God At All Times

Nebuchadnezzar discovered that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men seven years after he was removed from his throne and shamed to the point of eating grass like an animal. Nebuchadnezzar had mistakenly believed that the "might of his power" (Daniel 4:30) was what made him powerful, but he subsequently recognized that it was God who made him great. Many people today make the same mistake by saying that their success is due to "a lot of hard effort." What does a man have that he did not get, beloved? (1 Corinthians 4:7) Any accomplishment that does not lead us back to the original Achiever-the Almighty God-is lethal.

In James 4:13-15, the Bible warns against boasting without giving God glory:

"Come now, ye who say, 'Today or tomorrow, we will travel into such a place, and stay there a year, and buy and sell, and make profit,' for you have no idea what tomorrow may bring. What is the purpose of your life? It's even a vapor that appears for a brief moment before dissipating. For this reason, you should say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

Because He is Sovereign, only the Almighty God has the capacity to will and do. It is abhorrent in the eyes of the Sovereign God for anybody to boast not only of what he has accomplished, but also of what he could accomplish in the future. “But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such gladness is evil,” James 4:16 warns.

As King Herod did, we should never assign to ourselves the honor due to God. All he had to do was refocus God's glory, but he failed to do so, and as we see in Acts 12:21-23, this cost him his life.

"And on a certain day, Herod, dressed in royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered an oration to them." And the crowd erupted in applause, proclaiming, "This is the voice of a god, not a man!" And the Lord's angel smote him down because he did not give God glory; and he was eaten by worms and died."

God is the only one who deserves praise. In the mighty name of Jesus, make it a practice to return all glory to God at all times, and He will continue to promote you.
