Why Was there War in Heaven If It Is a Holy Place? (Revelation 12:7,8)

Revelation

12: 7-8 describes a war in heaven, where Michael and his angels battled with the dragon and its angels (demons). Although Michael and his angels, good spirits who serve God, have conquered the dragon and its angels with the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and the Word of their testimony, the cause of such a war in heaven must be understood.

The reason the war broke out in heaven for the first time was that, just before Jesus came to die for the sins of the world, so much darkness fell on the worship of God in the Old Testament that the sacrifices and offerings of the temple became unclean. The most holy place, which symbolized the presence of God (heaven) in Israel, was defiled by illegal sacrifices.

The prophet Malachi said, "ask, 'How have we despised your name?' By bringing unclean food upon my altar, [Jehovah answered] "... When you bring a blind thing to the sacrifice, is it not evil? (Malachi 1: 6-10). Such deplorable conduct took place until the time of Jesus' ministry in Jerusalem. At that time, Jesus had to flee because the people were selling and selling outside the temple, because they had made it a "den of robbers".

In the light of God's Word, those actions revealed the existence of wicked spirits in God's heavenly realm. Further, Jesus had to condemn the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy. (Matthew 23)

But to prevent the spread of the kingdom of God, God sent His Son to die on the cross, be buried and rise again, and Jesus made all things new. (2 Corinthians 5: 17-19; Revelation 21: 5). It was this new Creation of God, the teachings of God's Truth caused by the evil deeds (spirits) that governed God's covenant, and that is why there was war in heaven.

But the New Creation of believers in Christ Jesus overcame these evil spirits with the truth of Christ (the blood of the Lamb) and their confession. This was seen in heaven as Michael and his angels conquered the dragon and its angels.

Therefore, there was a need for a new heaven and a new earth, for heaven and earth and the filthy earth have passed away. (Revelation 21: 1)
