PRAYER: Lord, help me to follow your example in giving thanks to God always

"And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude"((Matt. 14:19).

Today, we shall be looking at the exemplary attitude of our Lord Jesus Christ in thanksgiving Our key verse shows that He gave thanks to God the Father before breaking the five loaves of bread and two fish for the multitude of people who thronged Him to hear the word of God. The result was the multiplication of the food to be more than enough for the large crowd and twelve baskets left over for the disciples.

Another scenario of giving of thanks by the Lord is recorded again by Matthew during the Last supper, "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks.... then He took the cup, gave thanks... "(Matt.26:26-27). This is corroborated by 1 Cor 11:24. The book of John records that the Lord started his prayer to raise Lazarus back to life thus, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me" (John 11:41). The result was an incredible miracle of Lazarus coming back to life after four days in the grave.

Again, Matthew records that He praised the Father profusely for revealing mysteries of the kingdom to His children, "At that time Jesus said, 'I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children" (Matt.11:25).

In Psalm 92:1, the Bible says that giving thanks to God is a good thing. It will bring down God's glory. May we habitually learn to show appreciation to the Lord and may we devote today to thank Him for seeing us through the first half of this year.

CONTROLLING THOUGHT: Thanksgiving is crucial.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to follow your example in giving thanks to God always. Amen.
