Self-examination is the process of examining one's own ideas, desires, and actions. Before advising and counseling people on how to live their lives, our Lord Jesus Christ warned that self-examination is always required. Self-examination is required before a Christian engages in spiritual activities that need some level of sanctification and holiness in the church. "But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of this bread, and drink of this cup." 1 Corinthians 11:28.
As a result, taking Holy Communion or accepting ordination into a position in the church should be preceded by self-examination. We must remember, however, that God qualifies the called rather than calling the qualified. We are not worthy of the magnificent gift of redemption He gained for us at the crucifixion of Cavalry, thus no Christian can claim adequacy in qualifications.
As a result, the goal of self-examination is to do what is honest and truthful before God and man, rather than to qualify yourself or establish your worth before God. This is why the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 13:7, "Now I beseech to God that you do no wrong; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do what is honest, even if we be reprobates."
In the twenty-first century church, self-examination is required to ensure that we remain faithful. The practice of adhering to key Bible ideas has faded away. Obeying Bible commandments is now contingent on whether or not they impinge on a person's human rights and whether or not they are approved by him or her personally.
The Holy Bible's unambiguous definitions of sin, righteousness, and holiness are now relative to a person's choice, with major cultural and environmental considerations. As a result, unmarried couples cohabit, dress immodestly, and act in ways that contradict Biblical principles are tolerated in God's church. Examine yourself today to see if you are still a follower of Christ.
