Prayer: Dear Father, Please Break Me And Fill Me With Your Fullness

"I am frail and severely broken: I have yelled because my heart is troubled." Psalm 38:8

One point in your connection with God where you must go is the place of brokenness. The term "broken" refers to an object that has been damaged in some way, rendering it less than whole. It is to break or tame the body in order to be more beneficial to the Kingdom of God in spiritual terms.

Why do you feel the need to be mended? You must be broken in order for the flesh to be placed where it belongs. Until you reach a moment of brokenness, your life will run on a body-soul-spirit priority system, which means the body will be in charge of the spirit. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:27,

"However, I keep under my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself might be castaway."

If you don't learn to control your body, it will humiliate you when you least expect it.

Another reason for brokenness is that it aids in the loss of ground that will be occupied by God. In other words, it makes room for God. The more broken you are, the more room the Spirit has to fill inside of you. Brokenness also enables us to be authentic ambassadors for Christ, causing us to represent Him in the way that we should. According to 2 Corinthians 5:20,

"Now therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were to implore you through us: we pray you, be reconciled to God, in Christ's stead."

Most Christians would turn away those who were about to enter the Kingdom if they were not broken. Consider the one who is humiliated by an unbeliever and retaliates. What hope does such a Christian have of winning that soul to Christ? It may be difficult to perceive the fruit of the Spirit manifesting in you if you are not broken. Are you shattered? To what extent do you give in to your flesh? What precautions have you taken to control the flesh?

If God breaks you, He will shape you to fit into His mold, but if you aren't broken, you will continue to fit into your old mold.
