On the very same day the Democratic Alliance took over Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg metros, President Cyril Ramaphosa called the newly appointed mayors to congratulate them. Ramaphosa took to his official Twitter account to publicly wish the DA well in their journey of governance. Many South Africans were bothered by the fact that Ramaphosa was congratulating opposition. The public came to a conclusion that indeed Ramaphosa is on a mission to collapse the governing party as speculated.
But then on Wednesday, the ANC managed to win over eThekwini, however the president hasn't said any congratulatory message to Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda. Mzansi is now raising questions. "Has Cyril Ramaphosa called our ANC Mayors personally and congratulated them yet?? Or thats reserved for his constituency in the DA?" a Twitter user asked.
All we know is that Kaunda and his Deputy, Mavundla are die hard Zuma supporters. So, as we connect the dots, our opinion tells us that Jacob Zuma could have been the one who somehow saved the ANC in eThekwini.
Ramaphosa maybe is thinking along the same lines and is reluctant to congratulate the enemy, the other faction. But if he managed to congratulate the opposition, he can do the same with his own party, no matter how bad the blood is!
