US Promises To Strengthen Patnership And Relationship With Nigeria

On his multi-nation African tour, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo.

The meeting at the presidential house attempted to broaden ties as chronic unrest and human rights concerns lead efforts to overhaul US-Nigeria relations.

During their encounter, Blinken and Osinbajo signed several US-Nigeria accords.

Blinken reversed a Trump decision by eliminating Nigeria off a US list of countries that violate religious freedom.

Blinken said the US would engage closely with Nigeria on coronavirus vaccines, military matters, and trade.

He also stated that the Nigerian government was seeking to improve market access for Nigerian agricultural products in the US.

Afro-led solutions to Africa's issues, particularly the mounting war in Ethiopia, and action against climate change and Covid-19, were pledged by Blinken upon his arrival in Nigeria.
