Top ANC comrade exposed for not being happy for new ANC Mayor of eThekwini. See who he is

Mxolisi Kaunda of the ANC has been given a second term as mayor of eThekwini, despite the Democratic Alliance's (DA) initial appearance of taking the mayoral chain. The DA seemed to be pursuing eThekwini as well, after their surprising victories in Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni.

However, the council meeting on Monday was interrupted by individuals dressed in ANC garb. After a power outage, the meeting was postponed. This delay seems to have allowed the ANC time to formulate their strategy. It began when the ANC altered its executive committee nominees — over opposition from the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP). On the executive committee, the party replaced Ntokozo Sibiya with Philani Mavundla.See the source image

Mavundla is the founder of the Abantu Batho Congress (ABC) and a former Jacob Zuma supporter, according to reports. The ABC candidate earned two seats for the ANC and seems to have persuaded other minor parties to join forces with the ANC. This backing ensured Kaunda's mayoral chain.

However, who is Kaunda?

Kaunda was appointed mayor of eThekwini for the first time in 2019 after the resignation of corruption-accused Zandile Gumede. Between 2016 and 2019, he served as the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for transport, safety, and community interaction, according to the eThekwini Municipality. He also headed the provincial justice, crime prevention, and security cluster (JCPS) and the subcommittee on public demonstrations during this period.See the source image

Kaunda was appointed chairwoman of the transport committee after the 2014 general elections. He also served on the committees for economic development, tourism, and environmental issues, as well as community safety and liaison. He was a member of the provincial legislature (MPL) from 2009 to 2014 and chaired the transport portfolio committee. He also worked on the finance, community safety, and liaison committees during this time period.

Prior to being elected to the ANC's provincial executive committee (PEC), Kaunda served as the provincial secretary and chairperson of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) from 2004 to 2008. (2008 -2010). He served as a proportional representation councillor in the eThekwini Municipality from 2006 until 2009. His political career started in 2000, when he was elected to the Inanda ward council.See the source image

As ANC members were holding their breaths for an ANC mayor to be elected at eThekwini, the results did not please all the ANC comrades, as South Africans anticipated. After losing major metros in Gauteng, It was expected to be a relief when the ANC mayor was elected at eThekwini. However, South Africans learnt that Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula was not pleased with the victory. He was exposed in the comment sections, and South Africans do not understand why this is happening.
