Zuma's Ally Reacts As ANC Limpopo 'Opposes' Cyril's Second Term Bid

Former president Jacob Zuma's staunch supporter and ANC veteran, Carl Niehaus said he is glad and stated that he told people that Stan Mathabatha crossed the line when he endorsed president Cyril Ramaphosa for a second term during the party's celebrations in Polokwane.

Carl Niehaus had condemned Stan Mathabatha, ANC heavyweight in Limpopo province who took it upon himself to announce that president Cyril Ramaphosa should contest for a second term without a mandate from the province.

Niehaus argued that endorsing Cyril Ramaphosa to run for a second term showed that Stan Mathabatha was ill disciplined and had flaunted ANC's rules when it comes to the election of leaders.

Recently, the ANC in Limpopo province distanced themselves from Stan Mathabatha's endorsement of president Cyril Ramaphosa to run for a second term.

ANC in the province says the announcement by Mathabatha is his personal opinion and not a party announcement. Carl Niehaus now wants Mathabatha to be dragged before the National Disciplinary Committee for misconduct.

"I’ve said before that the call by Stan Mathabatha for a second term for president Cyril Ramaphosa was gross indiscipline and an abuse of the ANC January 8 Celebrations. I’m glad the ANC structures have now distanced themselves from his opportunism. He should be hauled before the NDC," said Carl Niehaus.

It now seems that Cyril Ramaphosa's bid to contest for a second term has suffered a huge blow after the Limpopo province distanced itself from him. As the ANC is heading to its elective conference, party comrades argue that the democratic processes of electing leaders should be followed so that the possibility of imposing someone uncontested will never happen.

Ace Magashule also argued that if people like Stan Mathabatha just endorse leaders without waiting for the NEC processes to unfold, that's when they will end up with leaders who only buy votes with money.

ANC conference is expected to be a tough and messy battle as some comrades are not yet known which faction they will be supporting. What is certain is that there will be a lot of surprises.
