The Dlomo's decision followed after the allegations that he is part of those who were fuelling the looting and the unresting that was happening in Kwazulu Natal and spreaded to Gauteng. It was claimed that Thulani was accompanied by his lawyer Phumlani Shangase at the time of him handing himself over to the police. The public broadcaster said Thulani is concerned for his and his family's safety.Dlomo denied the allegations, he said "I reject with the contempt that it deserves, any attempt to link me to the unrest happening in the country. This is but a smokescreen to deflect from legitimate concerns about the arrest of President Jacob Zuma and the frustration due to poverty of the communities and people, "
