Since 2003, South Africa’s poorest households are entitled to a monthly allocation of free electricity – but hundreds of thousands are not claiming it. This comes as a surprise to many South African citizens who did not know that electricity could be free, if you are falling under the category of the poorest of South African citizens because they know that you have to pay for electricity the way you use it.

But of course there were those South African citizens that are using electricity for free as we speak because they do this thing with the ammeter where it does not record that the electricity has been used up, and hence they continue throughout for years and years using electricity without ever playing a cent even for a single day.

Although electricity is free it does not seem like the government has done enough to inform those impoverished households about the free electricity that they entitled to. Law enforcements are urging members of the public who might have information that could lead to the apprehension of Suspects were involved in metre tampering in the theft of electricity to come forward.
