There has been so many development with regard to the Constitutional Court. We learn that the Constitutional Court will give judgement on the rescind application of the former president at the same time we are being told that there will be a new Chief Justice that will have to come in as the term of Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng comes to an end.
At the current moment, we don't even know where the outgoing Chief Justice is. The last time we heard, he took a special leave and we now have Raymond Zondo acting as the Chief Justice. Many people are saying that the president already knows who will be chosen as the Chief Justice and it is just a formality for him to say that people should participate in the selection of the new Chief Justice.
As we await the judgement by the Constitutional Court, we also know that the Acting Chief Justice Raymond has asked for the High Court to grant the commission another extension by yet another three months. The repot by the commission was supposed to be handed over to the president by September and it is clearly not ready. For how long will have this kind of extension go on, since they don't come cheap? It is tax player's money that is used to fund this extentions.
There seems to be a notion that the extension could be somehow related to the judgement that would be handed by the Constitutional Court. It is believed that they might just change their mind and give Zuma an option to go and give evidence at the Zondo Commission. They belive this could be a lifeline for Zuma.
But would this kind of a judgement be a lifeline for Zuma after he spent two months in prison? I really don't think that the former president would even agree to that, given that he really did not want to give evidence at the commission. It seems like the Acting Chief Justice is struggling to comply a report without the evidence of the former president. Remember this case was based on Zuma and the Gupta brothers, but non of those people have gave evidence.
