The former president Jacob Zuma has made it to the spotlight again after he delivered in his threats of laying charges agaisnt prosecutor Billy Downer for allegedly leaking his medical records to the journalists . He has opened a case today accompanied by his daughter Duduzile Zuma Sambudla at Pietermaritzburg Loop Street Station. It was revealed that prosecutor Billy Downer was in breach of National Prosecuting Act when he revealed court documents to the media and might go to jail for fifteen years. This was according to the former president's lawyer advocate Dali Mpofu. " Former president Zuma takes the strongest possible exception to what was done with his confidential information and the way it was treated in this court. It amounts to criminal activity" he said.

According to the NPA advocate Mthunsi Mhaga the NPA is committed to upholding due process and the rule of law and will assess the merits of the charges in an objective manner. " We also note that these charges are laid while the matter is subject to judicial determination by the high court in Pietermaritzburg and judgment is expected to be delivered on 26th October 2021" said Mhaga

He also revealed that the NPA is concerned about the context within these charges as they are laid and the timing in light of the pending judgement of the high Court. Mhaga has described advocate Downer as a highly respected advocate who has carried himself with integrity throughout his career in the NPA. So far the public is waiting for the statement from the Jacob Zuma foundation on the charges that Downer is facing. Share your thoughts and follow for more news.
