Parliament heavyweights visit Enyobeni tavern and slam it calling it dirty

On Tuesday parliament heavyweights from the committee of women, youth and persons with disabilities visited Enyobeni tavern, where 21 teens lost their lives.

Member of Parliament (MP) Nonhlanhla Ndaba said early indications suggested that the owners of the tavern were not complying with liquor law regulations and said:

"You can see it is very dirty, it's a small place... The way it is, it becomes more congested and is unhealthy".

On 26 June 2022, 21 teenagers died during end of exams celebrations at Enyobeni tavern, in Scenery Park, East London.

No official cause of death have been publicly released. But, the police have ruled out a stampede as the cause of deaths.

Unathi Binqose from the government safety said it is suspected they ate, drank of inhaled something that could be the cause of the deaths.

"But the suspicion is that it is something either they ingested through drinks, food or something they inhaled". Binqose said.

Last week it emerged that the survivors spoke of a strong and suffocating smell in the jam-packed double-storey building.
