South Africa has an influx of illegal immigrants. They come from all neighboring countries and other countries as well. However, Zimbabweans are in South Africa because they have been running away from their economic and political crises that has caused nothing but poverty in the country.
The BBC HardTalk aired a documentary show casing these struggles. Zimbabweans has 95% employment, no electricity in some parts, poor health care and education services, very high inflation and people surviving on one meal a day and sometimes do not even have any food to eat.
Indeed we need our jobs back, that is something that the government should look at but Zimbabweans also need our help. Instead of fighting our fellow brothers and sisters, we can fight against the government in the country. For example, we can put more sanctions and not do business with Zimbabwe.
According to an article on timeslive last year, about 45% of exports from Zimbabwe were destined to SA. Zimbabwe benefits from South Africa. The only way to get the government to understand that they need to create a better country for their citizens is through cutting trade with Zimbabwe. Other countries will follow and Zimbabwe will be forced to have fair elections.
Zimbabweans will surely go back home when they have fair elections and can vote for change. Instead of chasing these people away we should help them. Our civil society is string and can definitely empower Zimbabweans.
