Watch:Chaos Erupts At ANCYL Conference In Free State

The ANC Youth League had a convention in Mpumalanga province last week, and violence was also reported; the same situation is occurring in Free State province. According to critics, this depicts the character of ANC members, particularly their behavior at conferences.

However, the ANC Youth League in Mpumalanga uncontestedly elected the top five leadership positions. Despite prior skirmishes between the police and certain candidates, elections were held.

The ANC Youth League in Free State province likewise appears to have begun on a violent note, but it is unclear what precipitated the incident.

"If the conference was about service delivery and anti-corruption, they wouldn't be turning tables like this," criticized several Free State province ANC members.

Gwede Mantashe, an ANC heavyweight, recently remarked that the reason youthful party members are at odds with their leadership is because they want to bypass the hierarchy and occupy leadership positions to be closer to resources.

It became evident that this conflict between comrades is not about improving the lives of residents or delivering services, but rather is motivated by their desire to get closer to resources.

Some critics are of the opinion that the ANC Youth League in Free State must be disbanded on the grounds that the comrades behave like thugs, proving that they can never be social leaders.

Andile Lungisa, a member of the ANC, decried the power-hungry attitude that has developed within the party.

"A new perilous trend has arisen in the ANC: if you lose an election for any post at the regional, provincial, or national level, you will be removed from government deployment. In student politics, we formerly used the phrase winner takes all "said Lungisa.
