After losing to president Cyril Ramaphosa for ANC presidency, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma might not be a favourite to some party comrades who saw her bid to run for the ANC presidency an attempt to prolong the Zuma dynasty, but to those who are close to her greatly esteem her contributions to the movement.
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has been serving in government for the longest time and she is one of the elders in the movement who are still serving.
After turning a year older, ANC comrade and former Nelson Mandela Bay Councillor, and former deputy president of the ANC Youth League, Andile Lungisa says he salutes Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as an outstanding revolutionary.
"Happy birthday Mama weSizwe Nkosazana enjoy your day. We will forever salute you as our outstanding revolutionary," he said.
Dlamini-Zuma is one of the ANC comrades who believe in a Radical Economic Transformation and claim that South Natives should be rightful owners of land.
She was the RET presidential candidate in December 2017, but as it stands it is not yet clear whether or not Dlamini-Zuma will give support to Lindiwe Sisulu who is alleged to want to secure the faction’s nomination for president ahead of the December elective conference.
Speculation has it there is no cohesion among RET comrades as to who should be their presidential candidate. In KwaZulu-Natal it is alleged that there is a growing lobby behind former health minister Zweli Mkhize as a potential president.
Although Lindiwe Sisulu is backed by some comrades, the RET faction’s strongest base that wants one of its own in the ANC top six is speculated that it might create further difficulties for Sisulu and may force her to again collapse her campaign and accept a lesser position on the RET slate like what happened before.
In 2017, Mkhize and Sisulu made bids for the ANC presidency, but both pulled out ahead of the vote at Nasrec. Although Mkhize was left out in the cold by both factions, Sisulu stood against David Mabuza as deputy president on the RET slate and lost.
