Finally || Top ANC Leader FIRED From Cabinet

The African National Congress (ANC) leadership was notoriously known for dragging its feet whenever a need to fire certain members who are embroiled in unbecoming conduct arises, but it seems President Cyril Ramaphosa's administration has changed how things are done across the board.

South African news publications have all been dominated by the arrest of Mpumalanga MEC for rural agriculture and rural development, Mandla Msibi on charges pertaining to murder and attempted murder.

Msibi appeared in court on Tuesday in Mbombela after he handed himself to authorities yesterday, this follows an investigation regarding the brutal murder of two people at an ANC branch meeting few months ago.

Meanwhile, Mpumalanga premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane has moved with automatic alacrity and swung the axe on Msibi. She confirmed this evening that she has decided to relieve him from his duties because the matter was gravely serious and had become a national subject.

She is correct, because President Ramaphosa weighed in on the matter while on the campaign trail yesterday, whereby he indicated that in line with the step aside resolution and other ANC laws, Msibi had to be fired.

One can infer that, the President made uttered those comments to show the public that the ANC is cleansing itself in time for the upcoming local government elections. It was an important moment for the optics. Which is why Mtsweni-Tsipane had no choice but to fire Msibi.

It must have been a difficult exercise for her though, considering the seniority of Msibi in the provincial politics. She appointed him following the 2019 General elections well-aware that she was a man riddled with many scandals, particularly related to assaults and all.

South Africans expressed their delight in Msibi's sacking, with many indicating that he must also be removed from the provincial legislature as because he will still be earning his salary forked out by the state.

Others though, digressed by calling for the same to happen to Eastern Cape Premier and ANC provincial chairperson, Oscar Mabuyane who has been implicated in wrongdoing by the public protector.

What do you make of Msibi's sacking. Are you convinced that the clean up campaign is going well?
